Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the engine is cool and parked on a level surface.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Check and Top Off Oil Level
  • Remove the dipstick and clean it with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the dipstick, remove it again, and check the oil level.
  • If low, add the recommended oil type (e.g., BMW Longlife-01 or Longlife-14).
  • Check for leaks after adding oil.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Locate the oil filter and remove it using an oil filter wrench.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter, hand-tightening it securely.
  • Ensure the filter is properly seated to prevent leaks.
4. Inspect and Replace Oil Pump (if necessary)
  • Drain the engine oil by removing the oil drain plug and allowing it to fully empty.
  • Remove the oil pan by unbolting it and gently prying it off.
  • Locate the oil pump and check for wear or damage.
  • If defective, remove the old oil pump and install a new one, ensuring all gaskets are replaced.
5. Refill Engine Oil
  • Reinstall the oil drain plug with a torque of 25 Nm (18.4 lb-ft).
  • Pour in the recommended amount of new engine oil through the oil filler cap.
  • Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes, checking for leaks.
