Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting work.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Remove the plastic engine cover by unscrewing any bolts and unclipping it.
  • Take off any additional covers obstructing access to the timing chain.
3. Drain Engine Oil
  • Place an oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to completely drain.
  • Replace the drain plug once the oil has drained.
4. Remove Timing Chain Components
  • Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner with a socket wrench.
  • Disconnect any components obstructing the timing cover (e.g., alternator, power steering pump).
  • Unbolt and remove the timing cover carefully to expose the timing chain.
5. Replace Timing Chain
  • Mark the current position of the timing chain on the sprockets for reference.
  • Remove the old timing chain and tensioner.
  • Install the new timing chain, aligning it with the marked positions on the sprockets.
  • Replace the tensioner and ensure it is properly seated.
6. Reassemble Engine
  • Reinstall the timing cover and secure it with bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
  • Reconnect any components that were removed.
  • Reinstall the serpentine belt and ensure proper tension.
  • Replace the engine oil with the manufacturer-recommended type and quantity.
7. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the battery terminals and ensure they are secure.
