Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Socket set
    • Oil catch pan
    • Clean rags
    • Torque wrench
  • Gather the necessary replacement parts, including a new oil filter and oil filter gasket if applicable.
2. Drain Engine Oil
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using the socket set and allow the engine oil to drain completely.
  • Reinstall the oil drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 25 Nm).
3. Remove the Old Oil Filter
  • Use the oil filter wrench to unscrew the leaking oil filter. Turn it counterclockwise.
  • Be prepared for some residual oil to leak out; allow it to drain into the catch pan.
  • Inspect the old oil filter's rubber gasket; if it remains stuck to the engine, remove it.
4. Install the New Oil Filter
  • Apply a thin layer of new engine oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter to ensure a proper seal.
  • Screw the new oil filter onto the engine by hand until it is snug. Follow up with a torque wrench and tighten to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 30 Nm).
5. Refill Engine Oil
  • Remove the oil filler cap and pour in the recommended engine oil type and quantity as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Replace the oil filler cap securely.
6. Start the Engine
  • Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
  • Check for any leaks around the oil filter area.
7. Check Oil Level
  • After the engine has warmed up, turn it off and wait a few minutes.
  • Check the oil level using the dipstick and add oil if necessary.
