Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Spark plug socket, ratchet, extension, torque wrench, gap tool, anti-seize compound, dielectric grease.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
  • Ensure the engine is cold to avoid burns.
2. Disconnect Battery
  • Locate the negative terminal on the battery.
  • Use a wrench to loosen the nut and disconnect the negative cable.
  • Secure the cable away from the terminal.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Remove any engine covers if present, using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coils.
  • Remove the ignition coil retaining bolts with a socket.
  • Gently pull out the ignition coils to expose the spark plugs.
4. Inspect and Replace Spark Plugs
  • Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to remove each spark plug from the cylinder head.
  • Inspect each spark plug for signs of wear, such as burnt electrodes or oil fouling.
  • Measure the gap using a gap tool; adjust if necessary using a gapping tool.
  • If replacement is needed, apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs and install them hand-tight.
  • Tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 20 Nm, but verify with the service manual).
5. Reinstall Components
  • Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots.
  • Reinsert the ignition coils and secure them with their retaining bolts.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
  • Replace any engine covers removed during the process.
6. Reconnect Battery
  • Reattach the negative battery cable and tighten the nut securely.
