💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery if performing electrical checks.
2. Inspect and Top Up Brake Fluid
  • Use a clean rag to wipe the area around the brake fluid reservoir cap.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; if low, top it up with the recommended brake fluid (DOT 4 for BMW).
  • Reinstall the cap securely.
3. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, clear tubing, container for old fluid.
  • Start with the brake furthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear).
  • Attach the clear tubing to the bleeder valve on the brake caliper and submerge the other end in a container.
  • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
  • Open the bleeder valve to release fluid and air until only clear fluid comes out, then close the valve.
  • Repeat for the left rear, right front, and left front brakes in that order.
  • Check the fluid level and top up if necessary.
4. Inspect Brake Components
  • Remove the wheels to access the brake calipers and pads.
  • Inspect the calipers for proper installation and that they are not binding.
  • Ensure that the brake pads are seated correctly and that the hardware is intact.
5. Test Drive and Final Checks
  • Reassemble the wheels and lower the vehicle.
  • Disconnect any tools and reconnect the battery.
  • Test drive the vehicle at low speeds to check for pedal feel and braking response.
