Solution
1. Preparation
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely parked.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
2. Check and Top Off Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; it should be between the minimum and maximum marks.
  • If low, add the recommended power steering fluid (consult the owner’s manual for specifications).
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Locate the power steering pump and disconnect the fluid lines using a line wrench.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the pump to the engine.
  • Install the new power steering pump in reverse order, ensuring all bolts are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reconnect fluid lines and bleed the power steering system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock with the engine running.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Rack (if necessary)
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Disconnect the steering column from the steering rack by removing the universal joint.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe.
  • Slide the old steering rack out and install the new rack in reverse order, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Refill the power steering fluid and bleed the system.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle.
  • Check for leaks around the power steering pump and steering rack.
  • Test the steering operation at low speeds to ensure the issue is resolved.
