Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Inspect and Replace Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake fluid, funnel, bleeder kit
    • Check brake fluid level; if low, fill it to the recommended level with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4).
    • If fluid is dirty or contaminated, proceed to flush the brake system.
3. Inspect Brake Lines and Components
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, brake line wrench
    • Visually inspect all brake lines for corrosion, damage, or leaks.
    • Tighten any loose connections and replace damaged lines as necessary.
    • Inspect and replace any leaking brake calipers.
4. Test and Replace Master Cylinder
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, brake fluid, brake bleeder kit
    • Check the master cylinder for leaks and proper operation.
    • If defective, remove the old master cylinder:
      1. Disconnect the brake lines using a brake line wrench.
      2. Unbolt the master cylinder from the brake booster.
      3. Install the new master cylinder in reverse order of removal.
      4. Bleed the air from the brake system using a brake bleeder kit.
5. Bleed Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, assistant (optional)
    • Start bleeding the brakes from the farthest wheel from the master cylinder (usually the right rear).
    • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal while you open and close the bleeder valve until no air bubbles appear in the fluid.
    • Repeat for all wheels in the correct order (right rear, left rear, right front, left front).
