Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor (if applicable), and safety goggles.
  • Make sure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged. Disconnect the battery if working on electronic components.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels to access the shocks or struts.
3. Remove Old Shocks/Struts
  • For Shocks:

    1. Locate the top and bottom mounting bolts of the shock absorber.
    2. Use the socket set to remove the bolts.
    3. Carefully pull the shock out from its mount.
  • For Struts:

    1. Remove any components obstructing access to the strut assembly (e.g., brake line brackets).
    2. Remove the top nut from the strut mount using the socket set.
    3. Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring.
    4. Remove the lower mounting bolts and carefully take out the strut.
4. Install New Shocks/Struts
  • For Shocks:

    1. Position the new shock absorber in place.
    2. Install and torque the top and bottom mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • For Struts:

    1. Place the new strut in position and install the lower mounting bolts, torquing to specifications.
    2. Remove the strut spring compressor and install the top nut on the strut mount, ensuring it is torqued correctly.
5. Reassemble Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheels, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specifications.
  • Reconnect the battery if it was disconnected.
