Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, jack stands, and wheel chocks.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Lift Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the rear wheels by fully unscrewing the lug nuts.
3. Remove Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts on the rear brake caliper.
  • Use the socket set to remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Do not let it hang by the brake line; use a bungee cord or similar to secure it in place.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Once the caliper is removed, take note of the positioning of the old brake pads.
  • Slide the old brake pads out from the caliper bracket.
  • Inspect the caliper bracket for any damage or wear.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  • Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent noise.
  • Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same orientation as the old pads.
  • Ensure they are seated properly and securely.
6. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  • Use the C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing, allowing enough space for the new pads.
  • Align the caliper over the new brake pads and slide it back into position.
  • Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque.
7. Reassemble Wheel
  • Reinstall the rear wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and then tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque in a criss-cross pattern.
