Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Floor jack and jack stands
    • Torque wrench
    • Socket set
    • U-joint removal tool (if necessary)
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands before working underneath.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  • a. Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues.
  • b. Lift Vehicle: Use a floor jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • c. Remove Bolts: Using the socket set, remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and the transmission.
  • d. Lower Driveshaft: Carefully lower the driveshaft away from the vehicle.
3. Inspect and Remove U-joint
  • a. Inspect U-joint: Check for wear, play, or any signs of damage.
  • b. Remove U-joint: If faulty, use a U-joint removal tool to press out the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
  • c. Clean Area: Clean the inside of the U-joint yoke to prepare for the new U-joint installation.
4. Install New U-joint
  • a. Insert New U-joint: Position the new U-joint into the yoke and use the U-joint tool to press it into place.
  • b. Secure U-joint: Install the retaining clips or c-clips as necessary to secure the new U-joint.
  • c. Reinstall Driveshaft: Position the driveshaft back into place and secure it with the previously removed bolts. Use the torque wrench to tighten bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
5. Final Checks
  • a. Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • b. Test Drive: Perform a test drive to ensure the symptoms have been resolved.
