Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, transmission fluid dipstick, fluid catch pan.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off. Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
2. Check Transmission Fluid
  • Remove the transmission fluid dipstick (if applicable).
  • Wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth, then reinsert and remove it again to check the level.
  • If low, add the appropriate type of transmission fluid specified in the owner's manual until the correct level is reached.
3. Replace Transmission Fluid
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fluid catch pan, new transmission fluid, funnel, and torque wrench.
  • Drain the old transmission fluid into the catch pan by removing the transmission pan bolts and lowering the pan.
  • Clean the transmission pan and replace the filter if applicable.
  • Reinstall the pan with a new gasket, ensuring to torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Fill the transmission with new fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel.
4. Inspect and Repair Electrical Connections
  • Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors for signs of wear or damage.
  • Clean any corroded connections with electrical contact cleaner.
  • Replace any damaged wiring or connectors as necessary.
5. Reprogram or Replace TCM (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner or specialized BMW diagnostic tool.
  • If the TCM is not functioning correctly, reprogram it using the appropriate diagnostic tool.
  • If reprogramming does not resolve the issue, remove the TCM and replace it. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and programming.
