Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:

    • Socket set
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Oil catch pan
    • Funnel
    • Torque wrench
    • Rags or paper towels
  • Parts Required:

    • New oil filter (specific for BMW X5 F15)
    • Engine oil (refer to owner's manual for specifications)
  • Safety Warnings:

    • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting work to prevent burns.
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely raised if using ramps or a jack.
2. Drain Engine Oil
  1. Position the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  2. Using a socket wrench, remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to completely drain into the pan.
  3. Replace the drain plug and tighten it to the specified torque (typically around 30 Nm).
3. Remove Old Oil Filter
  1. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the old oil filter. Turn it counterclockwise until it can be removed by hand.
  2. Before removing, place a rag around the filter to catch any residual oil.
  3. Inspect the old filter's rubber O-ring to ensure it came off with the filter.
4. Install New Oil Filter
  1. Apply a thin layer of new engine oil to the rubber O-ring of the new oil filter to ensure a proper seal.
  2. Hand-tighten the new oil filter onto the engine. Do not over-tighten; typically, hand-tightening plus an additional 3/4 turn is sufficient.
5. Add New Engine Oil
  1. Remove the oil filler cap located on top of the engine.
  2. Using a funnel, pour the specified amount of new engine oil into the engine.
  3. Replace the oil filler cap securely.
6. Final Checks
  1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, checking for any leaks around the oil filter and drain plug.
  2. Turn off the engine and check the oil level with the dipstick, adding oil if necessary.
