Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool if recently used.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Use a socket set to remove screws/bolts securing the engine cover.
  • Lift off the cover to access the ignition coils.
3. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil.
  • Remove the bolts holding the ignition coils in place using a socket set.
  • Gently pull the ignition coils straight out from the spark plug wells.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to unscrew and remove each spark plug.
  • Inspect the old spark plugs for wear or damage.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Check and adjust the gap on the new spark plugs to manufacturer's specifications (typically 0.030-0.032 inches for BMW).
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant on the threads of the new spark plugs.
  • Carefully thread each spark plug into the cylinder head by hand, then torque to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 23 Nm).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Place the ignition coils back into their respective positions and secure them with bolts.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
7. Reinstall Engine Covers
  • Position the engine cover back and secure it with the previously removed screws/bolts.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
