Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, torque wrench, rags, drip pan, safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
2. Identify and Replace Damaged Hoses
  1. Locate the power steering hoses connecting the reservoir, pump, and steering rack.
  2. Using a socket set, carefully remove any clamps securing the hoses.
  3. Inspect each hose for cracks, wear, or leaks.
  4. If damage is found, replace the hose with a new OEM part.
  5. Reinstall the clamps and ensure all connections are tight.
3. Inspect and Replace the Power Steering Pump
  1. If the pump is leaking, locate it near the front of the engine.
  2. Remove the serpentine belt using a belt tensioner tool.
  3. Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump using an appropriate wrench.
  4. Unbolt the pump from its mounting bracket using a socket set.
  5. Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps.
  6. Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Check and Replace the Steering Rack (if necessary)
  1. If leaks are found at the steering rack, assess whether it needs replacement.
  2. Disconnect the steering column from the rack.
  3. Remove the tie rod ends from the steering rack using a tie rod puller.
  4. Unmount the steering rack from the chassis and disconnect fluid lines.
  5. Install the new steering rack by performing the steps in reverse order.
  6. Reconnect all components securely.
5. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  1. Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  2. Use the correct power steering fluid (refer to manufacturer specifications).
  3. Fill the reservoir to the recommended level.
  4. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to circulate the fluid and remove air.
