Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Address Error Codes
  • Using an OBD-II scanner, retrieve and document any error codes.
  • Clear the codes and take the vehicle for a short drive to see if codes return. If they do, proceed to address the specific issues indicated by the codes.
3. Fluid Check and Replacement
  • Check engine oil, transmission fluid, and coolant levels.
  • If low, top off with the appropriate fluids according to BMW specifications.
  • If fluid is contaminated, drain and replace with new fluids.
4. Clean Throttle Body
  • Remove the air intake duct and throttle body.
  • Use throttle body cleaner and a soft cloth to clean the throttle plate and surrounding area.
  • Reinstall the throttle body and air intake duct ensuring all connections are secure.
5. Inspect and Replace MAF Sensor (if necessary)
  • Disconnect the MAF sensor wiring harness.
  • Remove the MAF sensor from its housing.
  • Inspect for damage or contamination. Replace if necessary with a new MAF sensor.
  • Reinstall and reconnect the wiring harness.
6. Reconnect Battery
  • Once repairs are complete, reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and allow it to idle to ensure proper function.
