Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in a safe and well-ventilated area.
  • Tools Required: Multimeter, jumper cables, socket set, torque wrench.
2. Inspect and Clean Battery Terminals
  • Disconnect the negative terminal first, followed by the positive terminal.
  • Clean any corrosion from the terminals and battery posts using a wire brush and a mixture of baking soda and water.
  • Reconnect the terminals, ensuring they are tight (torque to manufacturer specs).
3. Jump-Start the Vehicle
  • Connect the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
  • Connect the other end of the positive jumper cable to the positive terminal of the working battery.
  • Connect the negative (black) jumper cable to the negative terminal of the working battery.
  • Attach the other end of the negative jumper cable to a solid ground point on the vehicle with the dead battery (not directly to the battery).
  • Start the working vehicle and allow it to charge the dead battery for a few minutes before attempting to start the BMW.
4. Replace the Battery (if necessary)
  • If the vehicle does not start after jump-starting, the battery may need replacement.
  • Remove the battery hold-down bracket with a socket set.
  • Disconnect the terminals (negative first).
  • Remove the old battery and replace it with a new one (ensure it matches OEM specifications).
  • Reconnect the terminals (positive first), and secure the hold-down bracket.
  • Dispose of the old battery according to local regulations.
