Solution

💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Tools & Equipment Required

  • •Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands to ensure safety.
  • •Remove the wheel on the side where the strut will be replaced.

Parts Required

  • •New struts (front and/or rear)
  • •Strut mounts (if necessary)
  • •Strut boots (if necessary)

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, pry bar, impact wrench.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands to ensure safety.
  • Remove the wheel on the side where the strut will be replaced.
2. Remove the Old Strut
  1. Disconnect Strut Assembly:

    • Locate the top strut mount under the hood and remove the nuts using a socket wrench. Support the strut assembly to prevent it from falling.
    • Remove the lower strut bolt using an impact wrench or socket set. If necessary, use a pry bar to help free the bolt.
  2. Remove Strut Assembly:

    • Carefully pull the strut assembly out from the wheel hub and take it out of the vehicle.
3. Disassemble the Strut
  1. Use Strut Spring Compressor:

    • Secure the strut in a bench vise and carefully apply a strut spring compressor to the coil spring. Compress the spring evenly until there is enough tension to safely remove the top mount.
  2. Remove Top Mount and Spring:

    • Unscrew the top nut and remove the strut mount. Carefully release the spring compressor and remove the coil spring from the strut.
4. Install New Strut
  1. Assemble New Strut:

    • Place the coil spring onto the new strut and align it with the lower seat. Reinstall the strut mount and secure it with the top nut.
  2. Install Strut in Vehicle:

    • Place the assembled strut back into the vehicle. Install the lower strut bolt and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 100 Nm but check the service manual for exact value).
    • Reattach the top strut mount nuts securely.
5. Reassembly
  • Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Repeat the process for the other side if necessary.
