Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and securely support it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for easier access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the steering column from the steering rack by removing the retaining bolt and separating the joint.
  • Remove the power steering lines from the steering rack using a wrench; be cautious as fluid may leak.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounting points using a socket set (torque specifications: refer to the service manual).
  • Carefully slide the steering rack out from the vehicle.
3. Inspect and Replace Seals
  • Clean the area around the steering rack to prevent contamination.
  • Inspect the inner and outer seals for damage or wear.
  • If seals are damaged, replace them with new ones. Use a seal puller for removal and apply a suitable lubricant to the new seals to ease installation.
4. Reinstall the Steering Rack
  • Position the steering rack back into place in reverse order of removal.
  • Tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque values from the service manual.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines securely, ensuring no cross-threading occurs.
  • Reattach the steering column joint and tighten the retaining bolt.
5. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Refill the power steering reservoir with the correct type of fluid (refer to the owner's manual for specifications).
  • Bleed the steering system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times with the engine off, then start the engine and repeat.
