Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Ensure the engine is cool before starting to avoid burns.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Identify and Repair the Leak
  • Coolant Reservoir Replacement:

    • Remove any covers obstructing access to the coolant reservoir.
    • Disconnect the hoses from the reservoir, using pliers if necessary.
    • Unbolt the reservoir using a socket set and remove it.
    • Install the new reservoir by reversing the removal steps. Make sure to secure bolts to manufacturer's torque specifications (typically around 10 Nm).
  • Hose Replacement:

    • Locate the damaged hose and use a hose clamp tool to loosen the clamps at each end.
    • Remove the old hose and clean the attachment points.
    • Install the new hose, ensuring it fits snugly and securely fasten the clamps.
  • Radiator Repair:

    • If the radiator has a small leak, use a radiator sealant as a temporary fix. For significant damage, replace the radiator:
      • Drain the coolant by opening the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator.
      • Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
      • Remove the radiator mounting bolts and lift the radiator out.
      • Install the new radiator, securing it with bolts and reconnecting hoses.
  • Water Pump Replacement:

    • Remove the serpentine belt to access the water pump.
    • Unbolt the water pump from its housing and remove it.
    • Clean the mounting surface and install the new pump with a new gasket, torquing to manufacturer specifications (usually around 10-15 Nm).
    • Reinstall the serpentine belt.
3. Refill and Bleed the Cooling System
  • After repairs, refill the coolant reservoir with the manufacturer-recommended coolant mixture (typically a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water).
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature, checking for leaks.
  • If equipped, use the bleeding screw on the cooling system to remove air pockets.
