Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the drivetrain.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a floor jack to lift the rear of the vehicle securely.
  • Place jack stands under the vehicle to support it safely.
  • Remove the rear wheels for better access if necessary.
3. Remove the Driveshaft
  • Mark the position of the driveshaft for reinstallation.
  • Use a socket set to remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the U-joint and remove it from the vehicle.
4. Inspect and Replace U-joint
  • Check the U-joint for any signs of wear, including excessive play or rust.
  • If replacement is necessary, use a U-joint removal tool to press the old U-joint out of the yoke.
  • Clean the yoke and prepare it for the new U-joint installation.
5. Install New U-joint
  • Grease the new U-joint with appropriate lubricant.
  • Carefully press the new U-joint into the yoke using the U-joint tool.
  • Ensure proper alignment and secure it with retaining clips or bolts as required.
6. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Align the marked position of the driveshaft and install it back onto the transmission and differential.
  • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (consult the service manual for exact torque values).
  • Reinstall the wheels if they were removed.
7. Lower Vehicle and Final Checks
  • Remove jack stands and lower the vehicle.
  • Reconnect the battery and start the engine to check for proper operation.
