Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely elevated using jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery if working with electrical components.
2. Remove Wheels
  • Use a lug wrench to loosen and remove the lug nuts.
  • Carefully remove the wheels and set them aside.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Components

A. Inspect Brake Rotors

  • Check each rotor for warping using a dial indicator; replace if warping exceeds manufacturer specifications (usually 0.002 inches).
  • If replacement is needed, proceed to remove the brake caliper.

B. Remove Brake Caliper

  • Remove mounting bolts using a socket set.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it with a bungee cord; do not allow it to hang on the brake line.

C. Replace Brake Pads

  • Remove old brake pads and check the caliper piston; compress if necessary.
  • Install new brake pads, ensuring they are properly aligned.

D. Install New Rotors (if applicable)

  • Remove the old rotors by unscrewing the retaining screws.
  • Install new rotors, aligning them properly and securing with screws to manufacturer torque specifications.
4. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall the brake caliper over the new pads and rotor.
  • Tighten the caliper bolts to manufacturer torque specifications.
  • Reinstall the wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
5. Lower Vehicle and Final Checks
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands.
  • Torque the lug nuts to proper specifications.
  • Reconnect the battery.
