Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, wheel bearing puller, grease.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery if working on electrical components.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the car is still on the ground.
  • Jack up the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Fully remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Wheel Bearing
  • Remove Brake Caliper and Rotor:

    • Unbolt the brake caliper and secure it with a wire or bungee cord to avoid strain on the brake line.
    • Remove the brake rotor.
  • Remove Hub Assembly:

    • Unbolt the hub assembly from the knuckle. This may require a socket set.
    • Use a wheel bearing puller to extract the wheel bearing from the hub if necessary.
  • Install New Wheel Bearing:

    • Clean the hub area and apply a thin layer of grease to the new bearing.
    • Press the new bearing into place using a bearing installer tool.
4. Reassemble Components
  • Reattach Hub Assembly:

    • Position the hub assembly back onto the knuckle and bolt it securely.
    • Use a torque wrench to tighten the hub bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque settings.
  • Reinstall Brake Rotor and Caliper:

    • Reattach the brake rotor and secure the caliper back in place.
5. Reinstall Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even distribution.
