Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, serpentine belt tool or a 3/8" drive ratchet, flashlight
  • Ensure the engine is turned off and cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove the Old Serpentine Belt
  1. Locate the serpentine belt tensioner.
  2. Using the serpentine belt tool or ratchet, turn the tensioner clockwise to relieve tension on the belt.
  3. While holding the tensioner, carefully slide the belt off one of the pulleys.
  4. Release the tensioner back to its original position.
  5. Remove the belt completely by sliding it off all pulleys.
3. Install the New Serpentine Belt
  1. Reference a serpentine belt routing diagram (often found on a sticker under the hood or in the owner's manual).
  2. Begin threading the new serpentine belt around the appropriate pulleys as per the routing diagram.
  3. Leave the last pulley free to allow for easy installation.
  4. Use the tensioner tool to again turn the tensioner clockwise, allowing you to slide the belt over the final pulley.
4. Verify Installation and Reconnect Battery
  1. Ensure that the belt is correctly positioned on all pulleys and that it is seated properly.
  2. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  3. Start the engine and observe the belt for proper operation and alignment.
