Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts before starting.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety.

Tools Required:

  • OBD-II scanner
  • Multimeter
  • Oxygen sensor socket or wrench
  • Ratchet and socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Safety goggles and gloves
2. Locate the Oxygen Sensor
  • Identify the oxygen sensor to be replaced (upstream or downstream).
  • Depending on the location, raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
3. Remove the Old Oxygen Sensor
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor.
  • Use the oxygen sensor socket or wrench to unscrew the sensor from the exhaust pipe.
  • If the sensor is stuck, apply penetrating oil and wait a few minutes before attempting to remove it again.
4. Install the New Oxygen Sensor
  • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new oxygen sensor (if not pre-applied).
  • Screw the new oxygen sensor into the exhaust pipe by hand to prevent cross-threading.
  • Torque the sensor to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 30-50 Nm, check service manual for exact value).
5. Reconnect Electrical Connector
  • Plug the electrical connector back into the new oxygen sensor, ensuring it clicks into place.
6. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  • Check for any exhaust leaks or unusual noises.
