Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shock.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
2. Remove the Fuel Pump
  • Access the Fuel Pump:
    • Lift the rear seat cushion to access the fuel pump access panel.
    • Remove the panel retaining screws or clips.
  • Disconnect Fuel Lines:
    • Use a fuel line disconnect tool to carefully detach the fuel lines from the pump.
    • Be prepared for fuel spillage; have a rag ready.
  • Unplug Electrical Connector:
    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump by pressing the release tab.
  • Remove the Fuel Pump Assembly:
    • Unscrew the retaining ring that holds the pump in place.
    • Carefully lift out the fuel pump assembly from the tank.
3. Install the New Fuel Pump
  • Prepare the New Pump:
    • Compare the new fuel pump with the old one to ensure compatibility.
    • Install any new seals or O-rings as required.
  • Insert the New Pump:
    • Place the new fuel pump assembly into the tank, ensuring it seats properly.
    • Secure it with the retaining ring, tightening to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  • Reconnect Electrical Connector:
    • Plug the electrical connector back into the new fuel pump.
  • Reconnect Fuel Lines:
    • Reattach the fuel lines, ensuring they click into place securely.
4. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall Access Panel:
    • Secure the access panel back in place and reattach the rear seat cushion.
  • Reconnect the Battery:
    • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Test the System:
    • Turn the ignition to the ON position (without starting) to prime the fuel system.
    • Check for leaks around the fuel pump area.
    • Start the engine and ensure it runs smoothly.
