For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • C-clamp or brake caliper tool
    • Brake cleaner
    • Brake grease
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using a lug wrench.
2. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Loosen and remove the caliper bolts using the socket set.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Do not let it hang by the brake line; support it with a bungee cord or similar tool.
3. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Take note of the orientation and position of the pads for installation of new ones.
4. Compress the Brake Caliper Piston
  • Use a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to gently compress the caliper piston back into its housing. This will create space for the new, thicker brake pads.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is removed to prevent overflow.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  • Apply a thin layer of brake grease on the back of the new pads to reduce noise.
  • Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same orientation as the old ones.
6. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  • Slide the caliper back over the new brake pads.
  • Reinstall and tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque value (check owner’s manual for specific torque specs).
7. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque.
  • Lower the vehicle and pump the brake pedal a few times to reset the brake pads against the rotor.
