Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Check and Top Off Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check fluid level; top off with manufacturer-recommended fluid if low.
  • Check for contamination (dark or milky fluid) which may indicate a need for a fluid flush.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, power steering fluid.
  • Remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner pulley.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump hoses using appropriate wrenches, and allow fluid to drain into a container.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the pump to the engine and take out the pump.
  • Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal process, ensuring all connections are secure.
  • Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Hoses (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Hose clamps, pliers, wrench set.
  • Identify any damaged hoses leading to/from the power steering pump and steering rack.
  • Use pliers to remove any hose clamps and disconnect the damaged hoses.
  • Install the new hoses, ensuring they are properly routed and secured with hose clamps.
5. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with fresh fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel fully left and right several times to purge air from the system.
  • Check fluid levels and top off if necessary.
