Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Lift the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, power steering fluid container
  • Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir into a container.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the steering rack using the appropriate socket or wrench.
  • Remove the tie rod ends from the steering rack by loosening the lock nut and using a tie rod puller.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from the chassis, usually secured with several bolts.
  • Carefully remove the steering rack from the vehicle.
3. Inspect and Replace Seals
  • Inspect the steering rack for wear and damage.
  • If the leak is from the seals, replace them:
    • Remove the old seals using a seal puller.
    • Clean the surfaces and install new seals, ensuring they are seated properly.
4. Reinstall Steering Rack
  • Reinstall the steering rack in the reverse order of removal.
  • Secure it with the mounting bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reattach the tie rod ends and tighten the lock nuts.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines securely.
5. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Refill the power steering reservoir with the recommended fluid.
  • Bleed the system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air.
