Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical shorts.
2. Check and Top Off Oil Level
  • Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.
  • Reinsert the dipstick and remove it again to check the oil level.
  • If low, add the manufacturer-recommended oil type (e.g., BMW Longlife 01).
  • Replace the dipstick securely.
3. Inspect and Replace Oil Filter
  • Drain the engine oil using a drain pan; remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to fully drain.
  • Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
  • Lubricate the rubber gasket of the new oil filter with fresh oil and install it.
  • Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification (typically 25 Nm).
4. Test the Oil Pressure
  • Install a mechanical oil pressure gauge in place of the oil pressure sending unit.
  • Start the engine and observe the oil pressure reading; it should be within the specified range (generally between 1.5 to 4.5 bar at idle).
  • If the pressure is low, further investigation into the oil pump or engine wear may be needed.
5. Replace Oil Pressure Sending Unit (if necessary)
  • If the oil pressure is adequate but the warning light remains on, remove the old oil pressure sending unit.
  • Install the new oil pressure sending unit and connect the electrical harness securely.
  • Reconnect the battery.
