Solution
1. Preparation
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves for personal protection.
2. Inspect and Replace Brake Fluid
  • Step 1: Open the brake fluid reservoir cap and check if the fluid is contaminated (dark or cloudy).
  • Step 2: If necessary, drain the old brake fluid completely using a turkey baster or a siphon pump.
  • Step 3: Refill with the manufacturer-recommended brake fluid (usually DOT 4 for BMW).
3. Check for Leaks
  • Step 1: Visually inspect all brake lines, calipers, and the master cylinder for signs of leaks.
  • Step 2: If leaks are found, replace the damaged brake lines or components as necessary.
  • Step 3: Tighten any loose connections or fittings.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Step 1: Start at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (typically the passenger rear).
  • Step 2: Attach a clear hose to the bleeder valve on the brake caliper and place the other end in a container.
  • Step 3: Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times, then hold it down.
  • Step 4: Open the bleeder valve to release air and fluid, then close it before your assistant releases the pedal.
  • Step 5: Repeat until no air bubbles are present in the fluid. Move to the next wheel in the following order: passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front.
5. Inspect and Replace Brake Components (if necessary)
  • Step 1: If brake pads or rotors are worn, remove the wheel and inspect them.
  • Step 2: If replacement is needed, remove the caliper and bracket, replace pads and/or rotors, and reassemble.
  • Step 3: Torque all fasteners to manufacturer specifications.
