Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves throughout the process.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Using a jack, lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using a lug wrench.
3. Inspect Brake Components
  • Brake Pads:
    • Remove the caliper bolts using a socket set.
    • Slide the caliper off the rotor and support it (do not let it hang by the brake line).
    • Inspect brake pads for thickness; replace if less than 3 mm.
  • Brake Rotors:
    • Check the rotors for scoring, grooves, or warping. Measure with a micrometer if necessary.
    • If damaged, replace the rotors as needed.
4. Replace Brake Pads and/or Rotors
  • If Pads are Worn:
    • Clean the caliper and mounting bracket with brake cleaner.
    • Install new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  • If Rotors are Damaged:
    • Remove the caliper bracket bolts and remove the bracket.
    • Slide the old rotor off and replace with a new rotor, ensuring it is clean and free of contaminants.
    • Reattach the caliper bracket and tighten to manufacturer specifications.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and rotor, securing it with the caliper bolts.
  • Reattach the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
