Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, jack and jack stands.
  • Safely lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel where the noise is occurring while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Lift the vehicle and remove the lug nuts completely to take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspect Brake Pads:
    • Check the thickness; replace if below 3mm.
  • Replace Brake Pads:
    • Remove the caliper by unscrewing the caliper bolts using a socket.
    • Slide the caliper off the rotor and secure it with a bungee cord to avoid strain on the brake line.
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    • Install new brake pads in the caliper bracket.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • Inspect Brake Rotors:
    • Check for deep grooves or excessive wear.
  • Replace Brake Rotors:
    • Remove the caliper bracket by unscrewing the bolts.
    • Slide the rotor off the hub; if it’s stuck, tap gently with a hammer.
    • Clean the hub surface with brake cleaner before installing the new rotor.
    • Install the new rotor and reattach the caliper bracket with the specified torque (usually around 80-100 ft-lbs).
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach the caliper and secure it with the bolts; torque to the manufacturer’s specification.
  • Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts, tightening them in a star pattern to the recommended torque (typically 90-100 ft-lbs).
  • Lower the vehicle and pump the brake pedal to ensure proper brake pad alignment.
