Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Inspect and Replace the Brake Booster
  1. Remove the Engine Cover

    • Use a socket set to unfasten any bolts securing the cover.
    • Lift the cover off carefully and set it aside.
  2. Disconnect the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose

    • Locate the vacuum hose connected to the brake booster.
    • Use pliers to loosen the clamp and carefully remove the hose.
  3. Remove the Brake Booster

    • Unfasten the nuts and bolts securing the brake booster to the firewall using the appropriate socket.
    • Gently pull the brake booster away from the firewall and disconnect it from the master cylinder.
  4. Install the New Brake Booster

    • Position the new brake booster in place, aligning it with the master cylinder.
    • Secure it with the nuts and bolts, ensuring they are torqued to the manufacturer specifications (typically around 20-25 Nm).
  5. Reconnect the Vacuum Hose

    • Reattach the vacuum hose to the brake booster and secure it with the clamp.
3. Refill Brake Fluid and Bleed Brakes
  1. Refill Brake Fluid

    • Check and refill the brake fluid reservoir with the recommended fluid (DOT 4 for BMW).
  2. Bleed the Brake System

    • Starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, open the bleeder valve and pump the brake pedal until fluid flows without air bubbles.
    • Repeat for all four wheels, ensuring the reservoir does not run dry during the process.
