Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues during the repair.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully lower the pan to drain the fluid completely.
  • Replace the transmission filter if applicable.
3. Remove the Torque Converter
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors related to the transmission.
  • Unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate using a socket set.
  • Support the transmission with a transmission jack and unbolt the transmission from the engine.
  • Carefully slide the transmission back to access the torque converter.
  • Remove the torque converter from the input shaft.
4. Install New Torque Converter
  • Position the new torque converter onto the input shaft of the transmission.
  • Rotate the torque converter slightly to ensure it is fully seated.
  • Reattach the transmission to the engine, ensuring all bolts are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reconnect electrical connectors and any removed components.
5. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Replace the transmission pan and secure it with the appropriate torque.
  • Refill with the correct type and amount of transmission fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
6. Test Drive
  • Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle.
  • Test drive to ensure proper operation of the torque converter and transmission.
