Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and safety equipment.
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Brake cleaner
    • Brake pad thickness gauge
    • Mechanic's stethoscope
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface.
    • Use wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Remove Wheel Assembly
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheel where the noise is occurring.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel to access the brake components.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the caliper by unbolting it from the bracket.
    • Torque specifications: Consult the service manual for specific values.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake pads and hang it using a bungee cord (do not allow it to dangle from the brake line).
  • Remove the old brake pads and inspect for wear.
    • If pads are worn below 3mm thickness, they should be replaced.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and rotor with brake cleaner.
  • Install new brake pads ensuring they are properly aligned.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • If rotors are scored or warped, remove them from the hub assembly.
  • Clean the hub surface before installing new rotors.
  • Install new rotors, ensuring they are seated properly on the hub.
  • Torque rotor screws as per manufacturer specifications.
5. Reassemble Brake Components
  • Reattach the caliper over the new brake pads.
  • Tighten caliper bolts to the specified torque value.
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and torque the lug nuts to specifications.
