Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench, socket set, mechanical oil pressure gauge, torque wrench, oil catch pan.
  • Ensure the engine is cool and parked on a level surface. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Check and Add Oil
  • Remove the oil filler cap and check the oil level on the dipstick.
  • If low, add the appropriate type and grade of engine oil as specified in the owner’s manual.
3. Inspect and Replace Oil Filter
  • Locate the oil filter and use the oil filter wrench to remove it.
  • Before installing the new oil filter, apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber O-ring of the new filter to ensure a proper seal.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand, tightening it according to specifications (usually hand-tight plus a quarter turn).
4. Test Oil Pressure
  • Remove the oil pressure sending unit using the appropriate socket.
  • Install the mechanical oil pressure gauge in place of the sending unit.
  • Start the engine and observe the oil pressure reading; it should be within the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • If the oil pressure is low, further investigation of the oil pump and internal engine components may be needed.
5. Inspect Oil Pump (if necessary)
  • If low oil pressure persists, drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan.
  • Inspect the oil pump for wear and proper operation.
  • Replace the oil pump if it shows signs of damage or malfunction.
6. Reassemble and Refill
  • Reinstall the oil pan with a new gasket, torquing the bolts to specification.
  • Refill the engine with fresh oil and replace the oil filler cap.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
