Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the engine is cool before starting work.
  • Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to ensure safety.
2. Identify the Leak Source
  • Use a pressure tester to pressurize the cooling system and identify the leak location.
  • If the leak is from the coolant reservoir or hoses, proceed to replace them.
3. Replace Damaged Components

A. Coolant Reservoir Replacement

  • Remove any clips or bolts securing the reservoir.
  • Disconnect the hoses and electrical connectors.
  • Install the new coolant reservoir and secure it in place.

B. Hose Replacement

  • Use a hose clamp tool to remove the damaged hose.
  • Install the new hose and secure it with appropriate clamps.
4. Water Pump Replacement (if leaking)
  • Drain the coolant from the system.
  • Remove the serpentine belt using the appropriate tools.
  • Unbolt the water pump from the engine block and remove it.
  • Clean the mounting surface and install the new water pump, applying gasket sealer as needed.
  • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
5. Refill Coolant and Bleed System
  • Refill the cooling system with the appropriate BMW coolant mixture.
  • Bleed the cooling system to remove any air pockets.
