Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and inspect the fluid level; if low, top it up with the manufacturer's recommended power steering fluid.
  • If the fluid is dark or contaminated, proceed to replace it.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Remove the Drive Belt:
    • Use a socket set to loosen the tensioner and remove the serpentine belt.
  • Disconnect Power Steering Lines:
    • Use appropriate wrenches to disconnect the high-pressure and low-pressure lines from the pump.
  • Remove the Power Steering Pump:
    • Unbolt the pump from its bracket using a socket set.
  • Install New Power Steering Pump:
    • Position the new pump in place and secure it with bolts to the bracket.
  • Reconnect Power Steering Lines:
    • Reattach the high-pressure and low-pressure lines, ensuring they are tight.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with new fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to expel air from the system.
  • Check fluid level again and top off as necessary.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the serpentine belt.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and test the steering responsiveness at low speeds and when stationary.
