Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Replace Oxygen Sensor
  • Tools Required:

    • Oxygen sensor socket
    • Ratchet and extension
    • Torque wrench
    • Multimeter
  • Instructions:

    1. Locate the oxygen sensor associated with the P0138 code (usually located in the exhaust system).
    2. Use the oxygen sensor socket to remove the old sensor by turning it counterclockwise.
    3. Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new oxygen sensor (if not pre-applied).
    4. Install the new oxygen sensor by threading it in and tightening it to the manufacturer’s specified torque value (typically around 30 Nm, but verify with service manual).
    5. Reconnect the electrical connector of the new oxygen sensor.
3. Reconnect Battery and Test
  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  3. Use the OBD-II scanner to check for any remaining codes and ensure P0138 does not reappear.
