Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Safety warning: Allow the engine to cool before working on the vehicle.
2. Inspect and Clean Battery Connections
  • Remove the positive terminal first, followed by the negative terminal.
  • Clean the terminals and connectors using a wire brush to remove corrosion.
  • Reconnect the terminals securely, starting with the positive terminal.
3. Replace Battery (if necessary)
  • If the battery voltage is below 12.6 volts and does not hold a charge, replace the battery.
  • Remove the old battery by disconnecting both terminals, unbolting any securing brackets, and lifting it out.
  • Place the new battery in position and secure it with the brackets.
  • Reconnect the terminals, starting with the positive terminal.
4. Test Alternator
  • If the battery is good, but the light remains on, replace the alternator.
  • Disconnect the battery terminals.
  • Remove the serpentine belt from the alternator.
  • Unbolt the alternator from its mounting and disconnect the electrical connectors.
  • Install the new alternator by reversing the removal steps, ensuring proper torque specifications for the bolts.
  • Reconnect the battery terminals.
