Solution
1. Preparation
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure you have safety goggles and gloves.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle at the designated lift points.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a socket set, remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the strut/shock assembly.
4. Remove the Strut/Shock
  • For struts:
    • Disconnect the sway bar link if applicable.
    • Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle.
    • Remove the top strut mounting nuts under the hood.
    • Carefully pull the strut assembly out of the vehicle.
  • For shocks:
    • Remove the lower mounting bolt and nut using a socket set.
    • Remove the upper mounting bolt/nut, usually located in the trunk or under the rear seat.
    • Carefully pull the shock out.
5. Install New Struts/Shocks
  • For struts:
    • Position the new strut assembly in place and secure it with the top mounting nuts.
    • Reattach the strut to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts to manufacturer specifications.
    • Reconnect the sway bar link if detached.
  • For shocks:
    • Insert the new shock into place and secure the upper and lower mounting bolts.
    • Ensure all bolts are tightened to manufacturer specifications.
6. Reassemble the Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and then torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
7. Final Checks
  • Double-check all connections and ensure there are no tools left in the engine bay or wheel wells.
