Solution
1. Preparation
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Gather tools and parts needed.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Funnel
  • Transmission jack (if necessary)

Parts Required:

  • New transmission filter
  • Transmission pan gasket (if needed)
  • Transmission fluid (specific to BMW specifications)
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully lower the transmission pan to drain the fluid completely.
3. Remove Old Filter
  • Once the pan is removed, locate the transmission filter.
  • Disconnect any retaining clips or screws holding the filter in place.
  • Gently pull down the old filter to remove it.
4. Install New Filter
  • Lubricate the seal of the new transmission filter with a bit of new transmission fluid.
  • Position the new filter in place and secure it with the retaining clips or screws.
5. Reinstall Transmission Pan
  • Clean the mating surface of the transmission and the pan.
  • Place the new gasket onto the transmission pan if applicable.
  • Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
6. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Using a funnel, refill the transmission with new fluid through the dipstick tube or designated fill port.
  • Start the engine and cycle through the gears to ensure proper fluid circulation.
7. Check for Leaks
  • After refilling, inspect around the pan and filter for any signs of leaks.
  • Shut off the engine and allow the fluid to settle.
