Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, fuel line disconnect tool, torque wrench, OBD-II scanner, safety goggles, gloves, and a fuel pressure gauge.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Relieve Fuel System Pressure
  • Locate the fuel pump relay in the fuse box.
  • Start the engine and then remove the fuel pump relay. Allow the engine to stall to relieve fuel pressure.
  • Once the engine is off, turn the ignition to the "ON" position a few times to ensure any remaining pressure is released.
3. Access the Fuel Pump
  • Depending on the design, either remove the rear seat or access the fuel pump from under the vehicle.
  • If accessing from under the vehicle, remove the protective cover (if applicable) and disconnect any electrical connectors.
  • Remove the fuel lines using a fuel line disconnect tool, being careful to catch any fuel that may spill.
4. Remove the Fuel Pump Module
  • Unscrew the retaining ring holding the fuel pump module in place using a special tool or a flat-head screwdriver.
  • Carefully lift the fuel pump module out of the tank. Be cautious of the fuel level sensor attached to the module.
5. Install New Fuel Pump
  • Remove the old fuel pump from the module assembly and install the new fuel pump, ensuring all seals are in place.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump module into the tank, securing it with the retaining ring to the specified torque (consult service manual for exact torque values).
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors.
6. Reassembly and Testing
  • Reinstall any protective covers and the rear seat (if removed).
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position a few times to prime the pump and check for leaks in the fuel lines.
  • Start the engine and monitor for any issues.
