After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and is secure (use wheel chocks).
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Gather Tools and Parts
  • Tools Required:

    • Brake fluid bleeder kit (manual or vacuum)
    • Wrench set (for bleeder screws)
    • Torque wrench
    • Catch container for old brake fluid
    • Safety glasses and gloves
  • Parts Required:

    • New brake fluid (DOT 4 or as specified by BMW)
3. Remove Old Brake Fluid
  • Open the hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir.
  • Using a turkey baster or siphon, remove as much old brake fluid from the reservoir as possible.
  • Clean the reservoir cap and area to prevent contamination.
4. Bleed the Brakes
  • Starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear wheel):

    • Remove the wheel and locate the brake caliper bleeder screw.
    • Attach a clear tube to the bleeder screw and place the other end into a catch container.
    • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
    • Open the bleeder screw to allow old fluid to escape until new fluid flows through the tube. Close the screw before the pedal is released.
    • Repeat until clear, new brake fluid is seen in the tube.
    • Tighten the bleeder screw to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 7-10 Nm).
  • Repeat the process for the left rear, right front, and finally the left front wheel in that order.

5. Refill Brake Fluid Reservoir
  • After bleeding all brakes, refill the brake fluid reservoir with new fluid to the proper level.
  • Ensure the reservoir cap is securely replaced.
6. Final Checks
  • Inspect all bleeder screws for leaks.
  • Test the brake pedal feel; it should be firm.
  • Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specification.
