Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Drain and Replace Transmission Fluid
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench, fluid pump, drain pan, socket set.
  • Put on gloves and safety goggles.
  • Locate the transmission fluid drain plug and place a drain pan underneath.
  • Remove the drain plug and allow the fluid to drain completely.
  • Replace the drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Use a fluid pump to fill the transmission with new CVT fluid as per the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Check fluid level with the dipstick and top off if necessary.
3. Inspect and Replace Transmission Filter
  • Tools Required: Socket set, pick tool, replacement CVT filter.
  • Remove the transmission pan by unscrewing the bolts with a socket set.
  • Carefully detach the transmission pan and drain any remaining fluid.
  • Remove the old filter using a pick tool and replace it with a new one.
  • Clean the transmission pan and reattach it, ensuring a proper seal.
  • Refill the CVT as described in the previous step.
4. Reprogram CVT Control Module
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner or BMW-specific diagnostic tool.
  • Connect the scanner to the OBD-II port.
  • Follow the prompts to access the transmission control unit (TCU).
  • Check for software updates and apply them if available.
  • Clear any error codes and perform a reset of the TCU.
5. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and allow it to warm up.
  • Recheck the transmission fluid level and add more if necessary.
