Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack and jack stands, torque wrench, U-joint puller, grease gun, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and place jack stands for safety.
  • Remove the rear wheels if necessary for better access to the driveshaft.
3. Remove Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the driveshaft from the differential by removing the bolts using a socket set.
    2. Mark the position of the driveshaft and the differential for reinstallation.
    3. Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the transmission once it is disconnected from the differential.
4. Replace U-joint
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Using a U-joint puller, remove the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
    2. Clean the U-joint yoke and inspect for any damage.
    3. Install the new U-joint in the yoke, ensuring it is seated properly.
    4. Use a grease gun to lubricate the new U-joint as per manufacturer specifications.
5. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Align the driveshaft according to the marks made during removal.
    2. Reconnect the driveshaft to the differential and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
    3. Reinstall the wheels if they were removed.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
