Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, torque wrench, and safety gloves.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shock and ensure safety.
2. Remove the Upstream Oxygen Sensor
  • Locate the upstream oxygen sensor (usually before the catalytic converter).
  • Use a socket wrench to carefully unscrew the oxygen sensor from the exhaust manifold.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
3. Inspect and Replace
  • Examine the old sensor for signs of damage or contamination.
  • If the sensor is faulty, replace it with a new OEM sensor.
  • Apply anti-seize compound on the threads of the new sensor (if applicable).
4. Install the New Sensor
  • Install the new oxygen sensor into the exhaust manifold and tighten it to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 30-40 Nm).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector ensuring it clicks securely.
5. Reconnect the Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the vehicle’s battery.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0134 code from the vehicle's computer.
6. Test Drive
  • Take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure the check engine light does not reappear and the symptoms have been resolved.
