Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Check and Refill Coolant
  • Tools Required: Funnel, coolant.
  • Remove the coolant reservoir cap and check the level; refill with the appropriate BMW-approved coolant mixture (50/50 distilled water and coolant).
  • Replace the cap securely.
3. Inspect and Replace Thermostat
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, new thermostat.
  • Locate the thermostat housing, remove the securing bolts, and detach the housing.
  • Remove the old thermostat, inspect the O-ring for damage, and install the new thermostat.
  • Reattach the thermostat housing and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications (typically around 10-12 Nm).
4. Check and Replace Cooling Fan
  • Tools Required: Socket set, new cooling fan assembly.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the cooling fan.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the fan.
  • Install the new cooling fan assembly and reconnect the electrical connector.
5. Inspect and Replace Water Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, new water pump, gasket or sealant.
  • Drain the coolant from the system.
  • Remove the drive belt and unbolt the water pump from the engine.
  • Clean the mounting surface and install the new water pump with a new gasket.
  • Reassemble all components and refill the cooling system with new coolant.
