Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather the necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secured with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical hazards.
2. Check Brake Fluid Level
  • Open the hood and locate the master cylinder reservoir.
  • Inspect the brake fluid level; if low, add the recommended brake fluid type (DOT 4 for BMW).
  • If the fluid is contaminated, proceed to drain and replace as described in the next step.
3. Bleed the Brake System
  • Using a brake bleeder kit, start at the furthest wheel from the master cylinder (right rear).
    • Attach the bleeder hose to the brake bleeder screw.
    • Have an assistant press the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
    • Open the bleeder screw to release fluid and air; close it before the pedal is released.
    • Repeat until no air bubbles are seen, then move to the left rear, then right front, and finally left front.
  • Recheck the brake fluid level and top up as necessary.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Components
  • If the brake pads or rotors are worn, replace them:
    • Remove the wheel using a socket set.
    • Remove the caliper by unscrewing the caliper bolts and securing it safely.
    • Remove the old brake pads and inspect the rotors for damage.
    • Install new brake pads and, if necessary, replace the rotors as per the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Reassemble the caliper and wheel, ensuring all bolts are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
5. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Test the brakes by pressing the pedal multiple times to restore pedal firmness.
