Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, ratchet, extension bars, spring compressor (if needed), wheel chocks.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Use wheel chocks to block the rear tires and prevent rolling.
  • Raise the front or rear of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove Wheels
  • Use a socket set to loosen and remove the lug nuts from the wheels.
  • Remove the wheels to access the shock absorbers.
3. Remove Old Shocks
  • Front Shocks:

    1. Locate the upper mounting bolts of the shock absorber in the engine compartment.
    2. Use a socket to remove the upper bolts, ensuring you support the shock with one hand.
    3. At the bottom of the shock, remove the bolts or nuts securing it to the lower control arm using the socket set.
    4. Carefully pull the shock absorber out from its mounting location.
  • Rear Shocks:

    1. Access the rear shocks from the trunk or wheel well, depending on the design.
    2. Remove the upper mounting bolts using a socket.
    3. For the bottom, remove the bolts or nuts securing the shock to the lower control arm.
    4. Carefully pull the shock out.
4. Install New Shocks
  • Front Shocks:

    1. Align the new shock absorber with the mounting points and insert it into the lower control arm.
    2. Secure the bottom with the bolts and tighten to manufacturer specifications (typically around 50 Nm).
    3. Insert and secure the upper bolts in the engine compartment, tightening them to manufacturer specifications.
  • Rear Shocks:

    1. Position the new shock absorber in place and insert the bottom bolts, securing them.
    2. Insert and secure the upper bolts, ensuring they are tightened according to specifications.
5. Reinstall Wheels
  • Place the wheels back onto the hubs and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 120 Nm).
6. Final Checks
  • Ensure all bolts are tightened and inspect the area for any tools left behind.
  • Remove the wheel chocks.
